Event: Advancing seafood traceability and transparency in the EU: the importance of robust data collection and management schemes in the fight against IUU fishing

Date: December 9, 2019

8 January 2020, European Parliament

The EU IUU Coalition (The Environmental Justice Foundation, Oceana, The Nature Conservancy, The Pew Charitable Trusts and WWF) is co-hosting an event with MEP Clara Aguilera and MEP Chris Davies to discuss ways of improving seafood traceability and transparency in the EU.

The EU has in place one of the most robust fisheries control systems globally with traceability being one of its main elements. In light of recent developments, this panel discussion with key European policy-makers, NGOs and representatives from national governments and the fishing industry, will explore ways of addressing current challenges by taking stock of best practices of seafood traceability systems within the EU. The discussion will be supported by a new NGO report related to the collection of key seafood data in an effort to encourage alignment between the EU and major market States.
