*NEW REPORT* – Making the FAO Global Record an effective tool in the fight against IUU fishing

Date: July 11, 2022

The EU IUU Fishing Coalition is proud to launch our latest study titled The FAO Global Record of Fishing Vessels: A tool for the EU to champion fisheries transparency globally’. This new report provides a snapshot of EU Member States’ engagement with the FAO Global Record of Fishing Vessels, Refrigerated Transport Vessels and Supply Vessels (the ‘Global Record’), and provides an overview of the performance of some of the EU’s key international partners, namely: (i) those that have at one stage been pre-identified or identified as non-cooperating in fighting IUU fishing as part of the so-called EU ‘carding’ scheme, (ii) countries with whom the EU has SFPAs (either current or dormant), and (iii) those who have concluded Blue/Ocean partnerships or signed joint statements on efforts to combat IUU fishing. In doing so, the report aims to assist the EU in identifying priority Member States for improvement, guide the EU’s engagement with partner countries and propose how the Global Record could be improved to be a more effective tool in the fight against IUU fishing.
