A top Royal Thai Police official instructed his colleagues from 11 provinces on how to use an online database to combat illegal practices and human trafficking in the fishing industry.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Jaruwat Waisaya, commissioner of the Office of Legal Affairs and Litigation, hosted the RTP’s second seminar on the fishing case database at the Pullman Hotel and Resort in Pattaya Sept. 19.
Jaruwat, head of the government’s Inspection and Monitoring Law Enforcement Committee, encouraged law enforcement in Eastern and Lower Central provinces to use the case database to increase their effectiveness in combatting illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing as well as human trafficking in the fisheries industry, problems that have prompted sanction from the European Union.
He said the Command Center of Combating Illegal Fishing established a database to track repeat offenders in the industry, but found it was not being used. So the CCCIF put the database online, making it easily accessible to all police officers.
The seminar was aimed at showing how to use the website effectively to report and track offenders in the fishing industry.
